About ISD
The Institute of Skills Development (ISD), established in 2022 at Jamia Hamdard, in collaboration with NSDC and Sector Skill Councils, offers Short-Term (Certificate) Courses and Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programs (Hons. with Research) to bridge the gap between required competency and skills.
These programs provide industry-relevant skills and certifications across multiple domains including Manufacturing, Computer Science, Automobile, Management, Healthcare, IT, Hospitality, and Retail. Students gain practical knowledge while ensuring they are industry-ready.
The comprehensive skilling approach combines practicing theory, hands-on training, industrial internships, and paid apprenticeships, emphasizing a practical, hands-on learning experience that bridges the gap between academics and industry.
ISD continues to focus on holistic learning that integrates practical skills, intellectual growth, and emotional well-being. It promotes self-reliance, interdependence, and lifelong learning as foundational values, making skill acquisition both aspirational and accessible.
Collaboration and Short-Term Courses
ISD recognizes the importance of aligning educational programs with evolving industry requirements. In collaboration with NSDC and Sector Skill Councils, ISD offers a series of short-term courses (3–12 months) designed to bridge the gap between academics and the professional world.
These programs provide industry-relevant certifications in diverse fields including Healthcare, IT, Hospitality, and Retail. Through a blend of classroom learning, practical training, and industrial internships, ISD ensures that students become confident and competent professionals ready to meet real-world challenges.
ISD encourages learners to explore these dynamic short-term programs and take the first step towards realizing their full potential.

Skill Development Programs
Internship
An internship (usually lasting 3–6 weeks) allows students to obtain a broad understanding of a specific business or skill. Internships help students gain a better grasp of a profession while learning business skills such as filing papers, preparing equipment, and assisting in day-to-day operations.
Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship is a long-term training program (24–28 weeks) that enables learners to apply their acquired trade skills while refining and developing the specialized abilities required for professional expertise in specific fields.
Project
Projects test students’ understanding and ability in a subject while enabling them to expand their knowledge through research. They may include original research, real-world problem-solving, or practical implementation. Each project results in a measurable and observable outcome, adhering to clearly defined criteria.
On-Job-Training
On-Job-Training (OJT) is a mandatory component of most ISD programs, requiring candidates to participate in industry-oriented training at assigned organizations. OJT equips students with real-world experience, making them “Industry Ready.” Trainees are expected to adhere to the host organization’s rules, regulations, and ethical policies, ensuring professionalism and accountability during training.
